Description: Thus far in my career in the lighting industry, I've mainly been focused on my primary passion, lighting for dance music at festivals and shows where "flash and trash" is the name of the game. However, this last year has shown me just how important quality of light is when it comes to more nuanced shows where cameras are the immediate observer for the show. There are so many things to consider when lighting for cameras and I'm just beginning my journey in figuring it all out, but let's just say that cameras are a lot harder to impress than kids in with GA wristbands in the front row. I've had my eye on the Sekonic C-800-U Spectrometer for the past six months or so, and I finally decided to add this awesome piece of gear to my kit. It's perfect for use in the field as a way to make sure the stage you are lighting is evenly lit and properly white balanced so you can achieve a proper image that looks natural. Please note that this video is not meant as a scientific test of the Robe fixtures that I'm using, this is just a demo of the features of the Sekonic C-800-U to show the differences between halogen and LED sources, and the complexities that come with using LED engines to reproduce colors. It's quite amazing how far LED technology has come, and how far it still has to go. Truly, I do not envy the engineers who are on the forefront of developing LED engine technology. Truly incredible.
