Description: #CutaneousLarvaMigrans #Creepingeruption To view the uncensored and uncut version: patreon.com/posts/60588655 Cutaneous larva migrans is the most frequent skin disease among travelers returning from tropical countries. CLM is caused by the larvae of animal hookworms. These hookworms generally live in the intestines of domestic pets such as dogs and cats and shed their eggs via feces to soil (usually sandy areas of beaches or under houses). Humans are infected in tropical and subtropical areas of endemicity by contact with contaminated soil. The hookworm larva burrows through intact skin but remains confined to the upper dermis, since humans are incidental hosts. Larval migration through the skin is marked by an intensely itchy, linear, or serpiginous track known as a creeping eruption. If the parasitic infection is untreated the larvae usually die within 8 weeks, but may lasts for months. Oral and topical medication may clear the infection within a week. In a rare cases, CLM can also infected the eyes, body organs, such as the liver or central nervous system, caused by the ingestion of larvae of the dog and cat. In most people with toxocariasis, the infection resolves on its own, and treatment is unnecessary. A antiparasitic drugs such as albendazole or mebendazole is given. Treatment of ocular toxocariasis is more difficult and usually consists of measures to prevent progressive damage to the eye. There are a few steps that you can take to help prevent CLM: At the beach, look out for animals. If possible, avoid areas that are frequented by many animals, particularly dogs and cats. If you must travel through these areas, wear shoes, use a barrier If you’re going to be sitting or lying in an area that may be contaminated, putting a towel or fabric down may sometimes help prevent transmission.
