Description: The second trailer for Obi-Wan Kenobi gave us our first look at live action purge troopers! I am so psyched about that, so here is a crash course on these unique Imperial soldiers. They were first introduced in 2018 in the Darth Vader comics by Charles Soule, and then appeared again in the 2019 video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. They were specialized stormtroopers assigned to the Imperial Inquisitors, or Jedi hunters. At their inception they were made up of clones, but the Empire eventually phased them out in favor of conscripts and volunteers. They were specifically trained to combat Jedi and were far more formidable than a standard stormtrooper. The trailer shows them wielding blaster rifles, and I think that’s likely all we will see them carry, but Fallen Order shows them armed with electrostaffs, electrobatons, and electrohammers as well. In the game they’re tough and scary and I fully believe any one of them could have taken down a Jedi at some point.
