We question ourselves and wonder why we are such a slow learner. We doubt that we can learn or why others can learn so much faster than we can. But this comparison is often unfair to ourselves because we are not taking in to consideration the struggles of others. In learning we also doubt ourselves because we don't give ourselves credit for what we know. We may know the material better than we are giving ourselves credit for and the exams and tests may prove that. Another contribution to our doubt is negative self talk. When I was training for the USA Memory Championship I created positive self talk affirmations that helped me maintain a positive self image and positive self talk that improved my belief in myself. Often students will tell themselves that they are poor test takers or they can't learn quickly and this negative self talk creates a self fulfilling prophesy. Improve your self talk and improve your confidence. The added pressure of trying to learn fast can also lead to self doubt. Be ok with being a slower learner.
