Yet there is more variety in the shape of the cars heading into the new season than we’ve seen for years. And sidepods are where we are seeing the most profound differences in terms of both size and shape. It’s something of a surprise given the fears of identikit F1 cars have been discussed for so long. When F1 and the FIA revealed their new rules package in Austin back in 2019, they even issued several car concept sketches in an attempt to prove that there was room for variety. But the range of designs among the 2022 F1 cars is far broader than those illustrations.
