Description: A view of the amazing country of Scotland taken from across Scotland, a number were taken by friends.Accompanied by the music Bonnie Dundee performed by the Buccleuch and Queensberry Caledonia Pipe Band. The Pipe Band was formed during the Second World War by the local Homeguard, becoming affiliated to Thornhill Royal British Legion in 1946.In 1983 they amicably split from the British Legion, and with the permission of his Grace, The Duke of Buccleuch and Queensberry, changed their name to The Buccleuch and Queensberry Caledonia Pipe Band.Since first forming, the band has been under the leadership of only 5 Pipe Majors, the previous being in office for 45 years with 55 years service to the Band. The Buccleuch & Queensberry Caledonia Pipe Band is based in the village of Thornhill in South-West Scotland. The Band is a registered charity and is totally self-supporting. It raises funds by playing at fetes, galas etc, both locally and further afield. They have also attended festivals abroad, mainly in France ~ Nice, Saumur, Dax, Haguenau, Wissembourg and Montréjeau to name but a few. On occasions they have been known to return proudly bearing trophies. On such trips they are usually accompanied by the Thornhill Scottish Country Dancers who help to make a more varied programme. There has always been a strong family tradition among its members, with often three or even four of the same family playing in the band at one time. The emphasis is always on youth and much of the older member's time is spent on tuition of the younger members. They meet on a Monday night in Thornhill Community Centre at 7.30pm. New members are always welcome. The band wears the Ancient Green Douglas Tartan and is led by Pipe Major Kenneth Prentice.
