Description: Pasargadae (پاسارگاد ) was the capital of the Achaemenid Empire under Cyrus the Great who had issued its construction (559–530 BC); it was also the location of his tomb. It was a city in ancient Persia, located near the city of Shiraz, and is today an archaeological site and one of Iran's UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The most important monument here is the tomb of Cyrus the Great, who is largely believed by Islamic Scholars to be Zulqarnayn. Dhul-Qarnayn, (ذو القرنين‎), or Zulqarnayn, "he of the two horns", largely believed to be the Cyrus appears in Surah 18 verses 83-101 of the Quran as a figure empowered by Allah to erect a wall between mankind and Gog and Magog, the representation of chaos. In the Islamic apocalyptic tradition the end of the world would be preceded by the release of Gog and Magog from behind the wall, and their destruction by God in a single night would usher in the Day of Resurrection.[
