Description: April 20, 2019 - Zeus is getting a checkup because his weight has dropped from over 19 pounds to 14 pounds and change. I think Helios and Finn have been bullying him so Zeus had been staying in the kennel. I kept bringing him inside. Then the last time I picked him up to bring him inside, I noticed how light he is. The Vet wants to check for diabetes and thyroid issues. April 21, 2019 - Zeus had been the only one who would eat raw chicken livers....until now. It's been a while since I got chicken livers for the cats, but decided to get some once I discovered that Zeus had lost a lot of weight. I was giving it to him all week and offering it to the other cats and Sadie, but none of them would eat it. However, this morning once Zeus was eating some liver, Sadie decided to woof down big pieces of it. Athena jumped up on the counter and ate some. Finn was asking for some so I gave him some in a bowl and he ate it too! April 24, 2019 - The vet didn't call me yesterday with Zeus's blood test results. I called this morning to ask and they said that vet won't be there until tomorrow. I insisted that one of the Vets call me so that I can find out the results today. One did call me and left a voicemail saying that all of Zeus's test results are good, thyroid was negative. He said there are some elevated white blood cells counts so he's not sure what's happening with that and we should look into it further. But otherwise Zeus gets a clean bill of health. So now my concern is why did he lose so much weight? Was Helios and Finn keeping him from eating? Others have told me that their cats lost weight due to teeth problems which caused elevated white blood cell counts just like what is going with Zeus. Hopefully, this cleaning and exam will make it so Zeus can eat. This Saturday Zeus has an appointment to have his teeth examined and cleaned. It costs around $300 with tax. All donations are greatly appreciated: paypal.me/gingerkittiesfour May 26, 2019 - Zeus wasn't looking better after the surgery he had to remove four of his teeth with holes in them. He seemed to be losing weight so I took him to the vet yesterday. The flesh around his eyes is dark instead of pink. The vet thought that Zeus might be anemic so he drew blood. He gave Zeus antibiotics and sent the rest home with me to give him. Zeus lost two pounds since the last vet visit. He is 12 pounds now. Zeus was also a little dehydrated so they gave him an IV of fluids. The vet left a voice mail this morning that Zeus has a UTI so he wants me to finish all the antibiotics then bring Zeus in for another blood test. That explains why Zeus doesn't want belly rubs. He's in pain. Liver and Kidney disease were negative. June 3, 2019, 18:00 pm - Zeus is going into surgery right now. He has lost more weight and is not eating. The vet shaved his belly for an ultrasound and found a tumor next to his intestines. We discussed all of the options and this is the quickest way to determine treatment. This will cost between $1248.00 and $1700.00 USD with no guarantees. I'm putting it on a zero interest card, but it will be tight trying to pay it off before interest kicks in. If you would like to donate our PayPal is: paypal.me/gingerkittiesfour June 3 , 2019, 18:56 pm - The vet just called with an update. The tumor is in the section that connects the small intestine to the large intestine, so it's blocking all nutrient intake. Removing the tumor is the only way that Zeus can survive and get the food he needs. However, the vet says it's risky and there's many things that can go wrong. He said he's done the surgery where the animals survived and recovered and also where they did not. He is going to do the procedure right now and call me afterwards. Please send your prayers to Zeus and the Veterinarian and his staff. June 3, 2019, 20:03 - On the phone with the Vet. Zeus is waking up from surgery. The Vet was able to remove the entire tumor. The risky part is connecting the small opening of the Small Intestine to the large opening of the Large Intestine. That is the area where complications can happen. Zeus is not out of danger yet. They will watch him closely over the next couple days. That will raise the cost past $1700 USD. The Vet inserted a feeding tube into Zeus's esophagus, but won't feed him until at least tomorrow. They will give him meds for nausea. The Vet will call me in the morning with an update. The vet bill to date is $2040.01 USD. I'm putting it on a zero interest card for now, but it will be financially tight trying to pay if off before all of the interest comes due.
