Description: Mine-Sniffing Dog Awarded State Honors From Zelensky A mine-sniffing dog received state honors from Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky during a press conference with Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on May 8. The celebrated dog, named Patron, and his handler, Mykhailo Iliev of the Civil Protection Service, received service and courage awards for helping find 236 explosive devices in Chernihiv. Video taken by journalist Roman Sukhan shows Patron, whose name means “ammo” in Ukrainian, barking when Iliev shakes Trudeau’s hand as Zelensky presents the award. Trudeau then pats his pockets for treats, joking that he couldn’t find any. After Iliev returns to his seat with Patron, he allows the pooch to sniff and lick his award.
