Description: Welcome back guys, today I’m going through why I think that the return of Cristiano Ronaldo makes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United contenders for the 2021/22 Champions League! ► SUBSCRIBE to STATMAN DAVE: bit.ly/StatmanDaveYoutube Having hit the ground running with two goals on his return to Old Trafford and stating that he expects Manchester United to win this season’s Premier League, Even without the addition of Ronaldo, I’d expect a more competitive Manchester United in this season’s Champions League. Ignoring the difference in strength between the groups, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has an extra year of Champions League experience. Add this extra experience to his solid gameplans and Ole’s side will perform at a better level, however, the addition of Cristiano Ronaldo will supercharge Solskjaer’s tactics. The Portuguese international becomes a different beast in the Champions League and holds a number of records including: most Champions League goals, most goals in a single season, most goals in the knockout stages, most wins in finals and he’s the only player in the competition to: score in 3 separate finals; score in all 6 group stage games; and to score in 11 straight Champions League games. Ronaldo isn’t slowing down either, with 14 goals and 5 assists in 23 Champions League games for Juventus, Ronaldo is a machine in this competition. ► CHECK US OUT ON TWITCH: bit.ly/SMDTwitch Solskjaer has tended to fare well in bigger games against the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and PSG, but Solskjaer can struggle when facing deep set low blocks. This is something that Ronaldo will help to fix as his aggressive goalscoring movement will see goals come from nothing as United win more matches. This will allow Solskjaer to deploy his counter attack more frequently which is where Manchester United are at their most dangerous. 47% of their Champions League goals last season came from counter attacking scenarios and Ronaldo won’t slow this down. As well as scoring twice against Newcastle, Ronaldo was the second fastest player on the pitch, not bad for a 36 year old. A clinical goalscorer up front will see United score more goals, which will benefit the industrious partnership of Fred and Scott McTominay in the double pivot. Alternatively, it’ll make Paul Pogba a more viable option in that position as Solskjaer’s men have the talent to outscore most opposition. Whilst in the latter stages, Pogba can return to the left wing where he’s registered 5 assists in just 3 Premier League appearances this season. Statman Dave Clips ➡ bit.ly/StatmanClips Manchester United’s summer transfer window was nothing short of spectacular. All three major signings: Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo addressed problem positions in the United squad and have brought a bit of sparkle to the side. The squad as a whole had lacked leadership and trophy winning experience but new boys Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo have that in abundance. The duo won 4 Champions League titles together and we’ve already seen them leading the dressing room, with Varane instructing Wan-Bissaka against Wolves and Ronaldo inspiring confidence with his pre-match speech against Newcastle. Alone, Cristiano Ronaldo puts his side in contention for the UEFA Champions League, like we saw with an unimpressive Juventus. But when you add his talents to a side on the up, how can you not expect Manchester United to be Champions League contenders? But what do you guys think?
