Eco-modernism, at its core, is a capitalist philosophy that seeks to escape climate change and environmental destruction through technological innovation, agricultural intensification, and city densification. Elon Musk and Bill Gates are perfect examples of eco-modernist. Both seek to harness current, and more importantly, future technologies like carbon capture and next-generation nuclear reactors to decouple emissions from economic growth. Ultimately eco-modernism seeks to maintain business-as-usual capitalism by relying on untested technologies and unproven theories.
