Description: I know that my new furnace can melt aluminum quite fast, but what I also wanted to know is can I melt brass and copper. So I made 3 small steel crucibles and tried to melt copper brass and aluminum for comparison. From a cold start the aluminum melted in 14 minutes shortly followed by the brass. Copper melted in half an hour. The ingot mold is made from sand that’s mixed with sodium silicate and hardened with CO2 gas. The resulting ingots weighed aluminum 194g, brass 629g and copper 598g.
