Description: Weightlifting Belts, Straps, and Knee Wraps - Not for Me. Here's Why and When To Use Them. I think belts, straps, and knee wraps, are misused. Many people use these devices like duct tape to hold their bodies together during a lift. Instead, one should be able to do the lift without these aids before using them for support. Instead, we should take a hint from what the lift is telling us and then work on the areas that are weakest. If you can't squat 225 pounds without knee wraps and you need knee wraps to accomplish the lift, then you should not be squatting 225 pounds. However, if you can squat 225 pounds without them and decide to use the wraps for extra support, then so be it. Most of the time, it is the forearms or grip strength that needs work.
