Description: Family fun at Wisconsin Dells is over and time to head back home. We had to wait a bit before departing as the weather was low IFR with fog. As soon as the fog broke there was convective weather approaching rapidly from the west. We departed VFR quickly expecting to probably need a pop-up IFR clearance at some point. Turns out it wasn't needed and we had a nice flight home between cloud layers with just enough visibility to stay VFR. I get asked regularly, I choose to fly VFR around busy airspace as much as I can safely because it's simply more expeditious. When needed we grab the IFR.
