Description: I am so excited to give you a tour of my latest design project, Venice Cottage, with my good friend and fellow director Lacey Uhle! Lacey and I first met at my Big Bear escape, Kitchy Cabin. She loved that I wasn’t afraid to play with color and how whimsical everything looked so when applying that to the guest house, we pulled inspiration from her travels around the world as well as her main house—a 1927 cottage with charming original touches. First walking in, I was struck by the beautiful high ceiling and roofline, which we broke up with some wainscotting to create some structure. To avoid it looking blank, we mixed in the perfect blue from Dunn Edwards. We loved it so much it became the hero color in the cottage. We even had our Semihandmade cabinet fronts in the kitchen painted the same color, which is such a stunning contrast to the copper backsplash and petite Signature Hardware faucet. Lacey’s husband, Rendall, *loves* music so we celebrated that with a dedicated room. The ornate Lewis and Wood wallpaper and bronze Hudson Valley Lighting fixtures bring in so much warmth and texture, which really sets the tone for the music room. The Rejuvenation bistro set was Lacey’s brilliant solution to filling in a vacant space between the kitchen and music room emulating a speakeasy. When focusing on the bedroom, we decided to showcase all of the amazing heirlooms Lacey’s collected from her world travels and other eclectic details like the surfboard hand-painted by Lacey’s friend Priscilla Witte and the beautifully crafted Folk Project headboard upholstered with hand-embroidered fabrics. We needed the right lighting to tell our story, so I turned to Hudson Valley Lighting and their sister brand Troy Lighting for sleek and statement sconces with brass and bronze accents to highlight the warm tones seen throughout the guest house. I love the flooring here because it looks Old World European but it’s actually from Duchateau's new Guild line. We went with Riley, a lovely engineered wide plank oak wood that’s real wood, so has that rustic DNA, but with a refined touch. One of my favorite parts of this project was the bathroom. It was quite a journey because we had all of these grand ideas that ended up needing modifying. Ultimately, we envisioned it as a wet room with a standalone shower next to a soaking tub, which really created an ensuite bathroom feel. We added Signature Hardware fixtures in polished brass, which shine so beautifully against all of the bright whites and muted tones. I absolutely love the Fire Clay tile floor too, which was inspired by a photo of a 1930s Art Deco bathroom. It’s a beautiful, yet subtle statement.
