It is the only road border crossing between India and Pakistan and is located at a distance of around 30km from the Golden Temple. The ceremony of Beating Retreat and Change of Guard makes this place highly valued, especially around Republic Day. People assemble here every day in thousands to watch the ceremony by the Indian army which evokes an intense feeling of patriotism in those watching. Barely a kilometre away from the border is this a popular restaurant called Sarhad. Sarhad, which means the border or frontier, is an eatery which highlights the cuisines and cultures of the two neighbouring countries. From the architecture of the building to the food, everything is a pure representation of two cities from both the countries: Amritsar and Lahore. Started in 1960, Adarsh Meat Shop is another famous spot in Amritsar for breakfast & Punjabi food. As you enter the famous food lane of Ranjit Avenue, you can easily spot Adarsh Meat Shop because only that is one place where you can see most of the people standing outside waiting for their order. Their shallow fried and slow-cooked tender meat comes right off the rib with a spicy and sour flavour and it can be perfectly paired with soft kulchas. Their Mutton Tikka is very good and is well marinated and spiced. The only problem one faces at this restaurant is that they only have a limited seating space so you will see people getting packed and eating in the car. They are also known for their Mutton Chaap, Brain Curry with kulchas and paya, besides their Mutton Tikkas! So, if you are in the mood for some Punjabi breakfast - ghee-soaked mutton tikkas, mutton chaap & the best of dhaba food in Amritsar, you know where to head!
