This is very similar to the term transgender, which is the person who’s experienced or expressed gender doesn’t match society’s expectations of their assigned gender. Dysphoria is the distress from this situation, transgender is the person in the situation. Transexual refers to a subset of transgender individuals who want to modify or have modified their body through hormones or surgery to fit their desired gender.
