This dual motor performance Model Y goes 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds. It has an estimated range of 303 miles and comes with 21’’ Überturbine Wheels, Performance Brakes, Lowered suspension, and Aluminum alloy pedals. All Teslas come with Autopilot which maintains speed and keeps within its lane, but this one has the $12,000 Full Self-Driving add-on which gives it more driver assistance features like Navigate on Autopilot, Auto Lane Change, Autopark, Summon, and Traffic Light and Stop Sign Control along with any future FSD features. 2 years ago I accompanied a friend when he picked up his 2020 Performance Model Y, and after seeing this 2022 model it seems like Tesla has improved the fit & finish. I'm a tall guy and am able to fit comfortably in the backseats with enough head and leg room which is great. The Model Y has a deep frunk area that is handy for storing extra items, and there is the automatic hatchback liftgate that allows quick folding of the backseats to maximize cargo room, and there’s additional storage in the lower compartment area so in total this has 76 cubic feet of cargo space. I’ve heard from others that the Model Y suspension is not that great so if you want the best ride quality in the Model Y you may want the Long Range model with the 19” wheels to try to minimize the bumpiness. This Model Y has an estimated range of 300+ miles, but you will not get that if you’re enjoying the funnest aspect of this car which is the performance. The 0-60 launch in under 4 seconds still makes me queasy any time I do it, and although it’ll make you smile and laugh if you’re constantly hitting that accelerator pedal you’ll likely have lower efficiency and get less than 300 miles of range. Since mid 2021 Tesla has ditched radars for their Autopilot & Full Self Driving features. They’ve gone to “vision only”, using the cameras and software to achieve their driver assistance technology. Every Tesla has a small 12v battery in the front to control the lower powered electronics, and unfortunately the lead acid version seems to die sooner than expected which could leave a driver stranded so this lithium ion version is a much welcomed upgrade. Most likely the Performance Model Y will take be the first vehicles to get the new 4680 battery from Giga Texas. It’s going to be interesting to see how Tesla rolls out the new 4680 Model Ys because they’ll either have to limit power and/or range to keep the price the same or they will have to sell a more expensive version. The 2022 Model Y is expensive, but if you have the budget for it you’re getting an all electric high performing car with over 300 miles of estimated range, access to over 30,000 Tesla Superchargers, and a spacious comfortable interior that should stand the test of time for the foreseeable future.
