Description: In this episode of TrailRecon, we headed off-road just south of Joshua Tree National Forest in search of an old mine from California’s gold rush days in the 1800s. As we explored the Red Cloud Mine Trail, we enjoyed the scenic desert wilderness, navigated technical obstacles in our Jeep, and Regena learned an essential off-road skill. In Southern California, we are fortunate to have a large network of off-road trails in our backyard, making it easy to head off the grid in search of adventure for the day. There’s also plenty of history from the Old West scattered throughout the area, including the ruins of mines and ghost towns, that are fun to explore while learning about the region’s past. Regena also asked me to teach her some off-road basics on this trip. I forget that she hasn’t had a chance to learn a lot of the technical aspects of off-roading because she hasn’t been wheeling as many times as I have. For me, it’s second nature to just do it. But now that she’s coming out with me more often, she’s wants to learn. So, I started by teaching her to air down the tires, which is easy with the brass tire deflators I use. You just screw them in and they stop releasing air when the tires get to the amount of pressure I preset them for. After airing down, it was time for adventure. The terrain started out as an easy dirt road, but before long it became a more moderate trail with some technical sections. Regena had a lot of fun tackling them and mastering her four-wheel drive skills. There are several different trails that criss-cross the area and you could really spend all day just venturing down offshoots of the trail and checking out the mining artifacts sprinkled across the landscape. We eventually found the Red Cloud Mine, after a few wrong turns, as well as some other ruins nearby from an old mill and homestead. We also found some great places to camp that we marked for future overlanding trips. All in all, it was a beautiful day that really made you appreciate just how good life can be nowadays. One hundred or so years ago, life must have been pretty hard for the pioneers, prospectors, and everyone else who came west in search of a new life, a fortune in gold, or both. Before we headed home, I had one last thing to teach Regena—how to air up the tires. I’d just installed a new tire inflation system and it allowed us to inflate all four tires at once, making this part of off-roading quick and easy. We hope you enjoy coming along for the ride with us on this episode! ******************** 🎥 RELATED VIDEOS 🎥 Playlist (Southern California Off-Road Trails): youtube.com/playlist?list=PLOwI43fd_sKmK8UOmm1Td1pI9Zwtw2pNX ******************** ℹ️ PRODUCTS IN THIS VIDEO ℹ️ ✅ Tailgate Table: trailrecon.com/Outback-Adventures-Trailgater-w-Bamboo-Cutting-Board-Hammertone--JK_p_4382.html ☕️ TrailRecon Adventure Blend Coffee: trailrecon.com/Coffee-BeansGrounds_c_333.html ******************** 🌐 TRAILRECON.COM 🌐 trailrecon.com Check out our website if you’re looking for off-road or overland gear and equipment for your rig and off-the-grid adventures.
