Description: The Cosmic Microwave Background [CMB] is the oldest light in the universe that we can see or detect. It was emitted only 380,000 years after the universe was born, back when it was a much less peaceful place. The microwave-band static is fundamentally linked to the Big Bang, and if we map it precisely enough, we can discover a wealth of information about the age, composition and structure of the universe.
