Description: More than 1.6 million people live in Pakistan’s desert region, Tharparkar, interior Sindh, where most people are dependent on farming and rearing livestock. 87% of the population is living below the poverty line, and this is worsened by ongoing drought caused by a lack of rainfall since 2015 with only 10% of people having access to clean water. The drought has caused death, despair and migration. Water shortages have caused major crop failures and death of livestock, leading to over a million people living without food. Women have no choice but to walk up to 8km every single day to collect water for their families in scorching and unbearable heat of 50 degrees celsius in the summer months. This water is often contaminated with sewage and industrial waste, and causes severe illnesses including diarrhea, cholera and other water bourne diseases. More than 1000 children have died in over the last few years suffering from malnutrition and drinking contaminated water. This Ramadan I have partnered with the Anzal Begum Foundation and Human Appeal to build a Smart Solar Village in Tharparkar with the aim to provide clean drinking water for vulnerable families and create livelihood opportunities for over 1000 people inshaa'Allah. Your donations will provide the families in the village with access to clean fresh water through the solar powered water plant pumping 10,000 gallons of water every 45 minutes and through the water supply scheme, people in the village will have water at their doorstep. Climate-smart agriculture and advanced livestock farming techniques will be provided so people can have improved food security and nutrition, livelihoods and become self sufficient. Milking goats will be provided to orphans, widows, the elderly and disabled family members and 20 street lamps will be installed and 12 toilets to promote safety and good hygiene. With your support you can provide clean water, food, safety and income to vulnerable people in an entire village in Tharparkar. Donate now: justgiving.com/fundraising/pakistanwaterproject
