First let’s talk about the high demand of Teslas and how it’s been causing some ripple effects in the company and its products. Tesla has already sold out of their entire production capacity for Q2. This is impressive and probably due to the restart of the new Model S production and an increase in Model Y production, but Model 3 is still a widely successful seller. The high Tesla demand is great for the company but probably not the best news if you currently have a Tesla on order or if you’re planning to order a Tesla soon since the wait times for delivery may be longer than normal. Since Tesla doesn’t need to incentivize more demand right now there’s a rumor that they are completely revamping their referral program after spending 23 million dollars on free Supercharging last quarter alone. The program will be more of a person-to-person system based on a new software update for the Tesla app. Model 3 & Model Y prices have increased again, the 4th time in 2 months. The steady flow of small price increases could be a result of Tesla anticipating a potential EV tax credit that is rumored to come later this year which would definitely spike more demand and require manufacturers to adjust their prices accordingly. The Cybertruck doesn’t have any side mirrors and we don’t know for sure if that will be the final design, but if if is, there are side rear view cameras that are discreetly built in to the black trim above the tires. It was the first time I saw a clear image of where they’re located, and these cameras will be used for Autopilot and could potentially be used as a viable alternatives to physical side mirrors if the regulatory laws allow it. 5 years ago Elon was asked how long it would take to achieve fully autonomous vehicles and he said he really would consider autonomous driving to be "basically a solved problem". That is around the time when one of my favorite Tesla jokes was born when a Twitter user tweeted at Elon and asked at what point will “Full Self-Driving Capability” features noticeably depart from "Enhanced Autopilot" features, in which Elon replied “3 months maybe, 6 months definitely”. Last month Elon tweeted that Tesla is hoping to release FSD Beta to more owners in May so we’ll see if that ends up being true. Also if it’s true that Tesla’s goal is having "1 or 2 million miles per driver interaction" before moving to higher levels of autonomy that would mean if the amount of FSD Beta testers reaches 1000 and each driver travels 1000 miles per month, then only one driver out of the 1000 would be able to intervene, only once.
