Description: SUBSCRIBE: bit.ly/1dKbiT4 A tattoo artist in India has become the first man in the country to permanently ink his eyeballs. Karan Sidhu, 28, who likes to be known only as Tattoographer Karan, is a full-time professional tattoo artist in New Delhi, India’s capital city, and recently got his eyes inked black to become the first Indian to risk such a stunt. ‘I’m still amazed when I see myself like this,’ he said. ‘It needs both courage and passion to do something like this. It’s not easy but not difficult either. You need to know what you want. It is all about looking and feeling different.’ Karan, who is a hotel management graduate, got his first tattoo when he was only 13-years-old. At 16, he became a tattoo artist before launching his own studio a year later. His career has flown him all over the world, with clients in UK and US, and he was in a tattoo studio in New York when he met Melbourne-based tattoo artist, Luna Cobra, who reportedly invented eyeball tattooing 10 years ago. Eye inking is a relatively new type of inking where needles are injected into the white area of the eyes to permanently fill the area with a particular colour. Karan explained: ‘Luna told me he’d give me some medicine to numb the sensation during the procedure but I didn’t worry. I wasn’t scared or hesitant about getting it done. If anything I was hungry and desperate for it. This was something I had been dreaming about, I’d been waiting to do it all year.’ On September 18, Karan held his own eyes open while they were injected with ink. ‘The experience was absolutely unforgettable,’ he added. ‘I guess it’d be physically and mentally painful for someone who is scared but I felt it was very bearable. I was ready to accept anything that came with it as I chose to do it, so I was okay with the sensation. It took a few days to complete, we gave my eyes a rest for two days and then completed the process. My eyes were swollen for a week, and they burned a bit. I had to wear sunglasses when I went into the sun during the healing period but later on, all was okay.’ Karan, who is currently single, described his experience as exhilarating and would highly recommend it. He said: ‘It was exhilarating and amazing. I feel this is the most elite thing one can do in body modification. I was amazed when I first saw myself in the mirror. It looks amazing. I’d never felt so proud. I was very pleased.’ Filmed by Faisal Magray Edited by Tanzeel Ur Rehman Get the latest headlines: stories.coverasiapress.com Like us on Facebook: facebook.com/CoverAsiaPress Follow us on Twitter: twitter.com/coverasiapress Follow us on Instagram: instagram.com/coverasiapress Please contact news@coverasiapress.com to licence this copyright footage.
