Socialization is more than just getting your dogs to be good around other dogs and people... it's getting them to be able to deal with and blow off stressful situations without being reactive to them. The way you get good with dealing with stressful situations is exposing yourself to them and learning to work through them. Exposing young puppies in positive controlled situations to new environments and many different loud sounds really has lasting life long benefits.
