Description: Does this happen to you? Pulling all your hair forward can result in stretched out roots and hair falling in your face all day. If you want to encourage curl definition at the root, and get better root lift, try out upright styling and using a brush to direct the hair up and back. 🔑 If you want volume, focus on directing the hair AWAY from the scalp not FORWARD. Direct the hair away from the scalp with a brush, either straight up or out to the side. Avoid brushing straight down or forward. In my recent YT video, I tested out an upside down styling method and shared some reasons why this method doesn't give me the results I desire for my low-density hair. For me, upside down styling leaves the underside layer stretched out and the middle/top layer frizzier because the curls aren't properly being placed where they will naturally fall. ☝️And yes, this even happens when I try and fix it by lifting the hair off the back of the head. Over-manipulating the hair in one direction and then back upright or to the side can just cause tangles and excess shedding. My favorite way to style is upright with a brush, where I see the top of my head and where each curl clump will fall. I can also tuck the frizz into curl clumps and define the roots. This also allows me to scrunch directly at the root. ▶️ I have a video over on YT called "How to Make Curls Tighter at the Root & More Defined" if you want to learn more about why your roots won't curl: youtube.com/watch?v=WlfhCuNFh7I&t=1s ⚠️ For many people, it's totally natural to have roots that are a looser curl or even straight compared to the lengths of your hair. It doesn't mean it needs to be "fixed". However, these are some things to try if you know your natural curl is tighter at the root and you want to enhance root curls.
