Prior to working at Microsoft, Oran had undertaken a user interface design project at Harvard University, in which he devised a device that was supposed to teach a couple of chimps a few English words. Needless to say the chimps never spoke a word, however the project did give a lot of insights into how to design a computer program that practically anyone could use.
