Description: Love it or hate it, Abrams Star Trek was an incredibly influential film that changed the series forever. While JJ has moved on to other things (namely a small independent film called Star Wars) the rebooted franchise lives on in this latest installment. Here I discuss how this franchise has lost its way in the persistent goal of trying to be cool, and hopefully how the series can course correct itself with the focus of grandiose ideas and good storytelling. Some other thoughts that didn't make it into the vid for time/pacing reasons: So in this film there is a new white alien (whose name I can't recall but we'll refer to as 'lassie'), and to me she felt like a complete rip off of the characters Gamora from Guardians of the Galaxy and Neytiri from Avatar; which is odd considering Zoe Saldana is part of this cast and gets completely side-lined here. I feel bad for Zoe, here best performance is in Avatar (and she is the sole thing that keeps that movie together) and I think people forget about it since she's not physically on screen. As for the whole Gay Sulu thing, I appreciate the sentiment but you should make sure to have the consent of the original actor to do this to the character. Also in the movie it really played like a last minute addition (which it wasn't) and it really felt forced. also I just realized that I spelled arc as ark... Oops
