Description: In this video, host and Snapdragon Insider Jervina Coston — a.k.a. @TechMe0ut on YouTube — sat down with Judd Heape, Qualcomm VP of Product Management, at Torrey Pines Gliderport in San Diego to discuss mobile photography. During their conversation, Judd explained the history of how mobile phones and digital cameras progressively merged to create the smartphones we use today. He and TechMe0ut also discussed AI’s impact on mobile photography, the most important technical features in a phone’s camera, and what the future of mobile photography will look like. Smartphones powered by Snapdragon mobile platforms enable advanced camera technologies, and users are able to capture stunning photos and videos. The Snapdragon Sight 18-bit triple image signal processor (ISP) allows users to shoot with three cameras simultaneously, and can capture 4,096 times more light and color data compared to previous generations. It can also capture 3.2 gigapixels per second — enough speed to capture 240 12 MP photos in just one second. That’s a lot of pixels in a very short amount of time. AI enables the cameras on mobile devices powered by Snapdragon to optimize textures, improve resolution and lighting, and remove unnecessary objects in post-production. With AI powered face detection, smartphones equipped with the Snapdragon Sight ISP have 300 percent faster face detection than previous generations. And in the future, AI will provide mobile photographers with more creative control, enabling features like intelligent composition framing. Finally, AI will also provide more professional features going forward, including the ability to switch lenses digitally, lessening the burden of having to carry heavy equipment around from shoot to shoot. Mobile cameras have already surpassed DSLRs in terms of sheer numbers, and that’s in large part thanks to Snapdragon technology. Snapdragon has revolutionized mobile photography — and will continue to do so going forward.
