Description: Zelda (the big scaredy cat) is a coydog. She is exhibiting neophobia, or a fear of new or novel stimuli. This behavior is common amongst wolves, coyotes, and mixes of the above. Zelda was rescued 3 years ago with her sister Midna, and now lives with her rescuer and her "brother", Bast. Zelda and Midna are coyote mixes and Bast is a lower mid content wolfdog. While both Zelda and Midna suffered horrible abuse and neglect, Zelda was far worse off due to contracting Parvo. She nearly died, but amazingly was able to recover physically. Emotionally, she still carries a tad more baggage than her sister, which can be seen in this video. While Midna is able to examine and overcome her initial fear of the new shoes, Zelda is unable to do so. Many wolfdogs, coyote mixes, and wolves also exhibit neophobia; this isn't the worst case you'll find of neophobia and it certainly isn't rare for these animals. When you consider getting a wolfdog/coyote/etc. remember that this won't be limited to shoes. New locations, new people, new furniture, everything is a threat and as an owner it is your job to help your animal feel safe. Responsible ownership goes far beyond feeding and walking an animal, and for dogs like these it can be a full time responsibility.
