Description: There's nothing about this video here in the description. For the past month I've been in and out of hospitals with my big brother. He's been stricken with a debilitating disease that stripped him of his livelihood, his ability to drive a car, and most of his mobility. It's both treatable, and preventable and hopefully sharing his example might help other people recognize the signs and symptoms and get the proper care necessary to prevent what he's experiencing. It starts with a stupid deer tick bite. These things have been exploding in population all throughout North America since 2014. If the tick is embedded long enough to deliver the Borrelia bacteria and causes ANY infection, you MUST get medical treatment for the prevention of lyme disease as early as possible. You must seek medical treatment to get rid of it. You can't beat it on your own no matter how many black belts you've earned, however much college you had, or how healthy of a lifestyle you live. It doesn't care. If you do not connect the medical professional with the history of the tick bite, and insist on receiving antibiotics, it's easily misdiagnosed. It is estimated that as many as 300,000 people are infected with Lyme disease every year. THE CDC REPORTS THAT AS FEW AS 10% OF CASES ACTUALLY REPORT IT OR RECEIVE PROPER CARE. 90% of people treated in the early stages of Lyme disease experience a full recovery. The sad part is that the 10% of people who don't respond to treatment... the doctors don't even know why? This same circumstance that I've read so much about could potentially be my brother. He has the blackbelts, education, and a healthy pescatarian lifestyle. He was bitten by a tick on a youth camping trip. He sought medical treatment. The rash that developed was not the atypical bullseye rash that Lyme disease usually creates. It was a wandering rash that had no geometric shape. The tick bit him on his upper spine. The doctors treated him for a fungal infection and the rash site didn't respond to it. Eventually though, it went away. This was 4 years ago. Things seemed fine for a while. But in the last couple of years my brother has been in decline, having migraine headaches daily, extreme joint pain, and cardiovascular issues that have ultimately put him out of work. For the past month he's been losing consciousness. Full blown Lyme disease can be cured. For some patients it's a long a difficult road. We don't know yet where Ian falls in this spectrum? Know what to look for: google.com/search?as_st=y&tbm=isch&hl=en&as_q=Lyme+Disease&as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&imgsz=&imgar=&imgc=&imgcolor=&imgtype=&cr=&as_sitesearch=&safe=images&as_filetype=&as_rights= This is a preventable disease. It can be debilitating. The more I read about it, the less prepared our medical community (as a whole) appears to be able to deal with it, to test for it, and to treat it. There are a lot of unknowns. That's why prevention and awareness are so important for the rest of us and why I'm posting this here. Click the link if you live in one of these affected regions, because what you see there may help you save one of your own friend's or loved one's lives, or at least alleviate a whole lot of suffering. It was his close circle that connected these events, analyzed his symptoms, figured out it was Lyme disease and got him help. For many patients living with this, it's only this kind of thing that makes that happen. Many of his symptoms have responded quickly to the antibiotic cycle. The migraines are less common. The joint pain AND back are a lot less troublesome. When he walks, he no longer needs a cane, but the single most debilitating symptom has NOT changed or improved at all, and it has prevented him from being able to work to support his family. He can't maintain consciousness if he stands or sits up for longer than 15-30 minutes, and doctors are baffled at what's put him in this state? He's cooperating with all of the agencies and hospitals that are available to him, but his progress and treatment are coming very slowly. This isn't part of the plot here. Even when I'm not with him, it's where a lot of my time and energy have been for the last month and I don't regret it. My channel will continue to be about my struggles building at least 4 project cars, and with the number of you watching me do this, it's only right that you should know this is going on. A GoFundMe page was set up where updates on his progress are being posted as he fights this disease. If you want to keep track of his progress, please visit gf.me/u/s2c4qf or search gofundme for "Ian Firestone". His companionship is why I turned out smarter than the AVERAGE bear. I look up to my brother. I love my nephew who I know watches my videos and I want his dad to be okay. I hope and pray everything's going to be ok over time, and we're all continuing to do what's necessary to keep fighting the good fight for Ian.
