Description: Today on a very special day, I’m coming to you with a very special song. Because of the incredible and shocking events in Ukraine, my friend Hilmar and I produced a video that is coming from the bottom of our hearts. Here is the story: Yana, a good friend of ours, is living with her family in our hometown of Remscheid since the beginning of the war in Ukraine. We and many of our friends helped her to find a new home here. They come from Bucha, a place that was hit very hard by the war at the very beginning. They had a good life there, 3 children, a beautiful newly built house, their own thriving business and then were completely surprised by what happened. She told us a lot about this wired times and showed us lots of photos and videos that she received from friends from the region. A few days ago, her 13-year-old son's schoolmate was shot while trying to escape from Bucha. Many friends from her village and colleagues of her didn’t survived yet. Her husband is still there and the family does not have a moment's peace until he is hopefully safe soon. This moving story has led us to publish Yana's images and footage in this video. The music: In 1916, the famous Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovych composed the folk song „Shchedryk", which later became known in Anglo-American countries as "Carol of the bells". Ultimately, the song consists of 4 notes, a minor third. I rearranged the composition and Hilmar played the drums and percussion, giving the song that extra drama it deserves. Today is not about bringing you good music, today is about compassion and the deep need for peace for all those people everywhere who are in such need.We wish you deeply having this. Heute, an einem besonderen Tag, komme ich mit einem sehr besonderen Song. Wegen der unglaublichen und schockierenden Ereignisse in der Ukraine haben mein Freund Hilmar und ich ein Video produziert, was uns sehr am Herzen liegt. Yana, eine gute Freundin von uns lebt seit Kriegsbeginn mit ihrer Familie in unserer Heimatstadt Remscheid. Wir, und viele Freunde von uns haben Ihr geholfen hier eine neue Heimat zu finden. Sie kommen aus Bucha, einem Ort, der vom Krieg ganz zu Anfang sehr hart getroffen wurde. Sie hatten ein gutes Leben dort, 3 Kinder, ein schönes neu gebautes Haus, ein eigenes florierendes Geschäft und wurden dann von den Geschehnissen völlig überrascht. Sie hat uns uns viel über diese Zeit erzählt und immer wieder Fotos und Videos gezeigt, die sie von Freunden aus der Region erhalten hat. Vor einigen Tagen wurde der Schulkamerad ihres 13-jährigen Sohnes auf der Flucht aus Bucha erschossen. Viele ihrer Freunde aus dem Dorf und Arbeitskollegen haben nicht überlebt. Ihr Ehemann ist immer noch dort und die Familie hat keine ruhige Minute, bis er hoffentlich bald in Sicherheit ist. Diese bewegende Geschichte hat uns dazu gebracht Yanas Bild- und Filmmaterial in einem Video zu veröffentlichen. Der ukrainische Komponist Mykola Leontowytsch hat 1916 das Volkslied Schtschedryk komponiert, das später im Anglo-amerikanischen Raum als „Carol of the bells“ bekannt wurde. Das Lied hat eigentlich nur 4 Töne, eine kleine Terz. Ich habe die Komposition neu arrangiert und Hilmar hat die Drums und Percussions gespielt, was dem Song die zusätzliche, verdiente Dramatik verleiht. Heute geht es nicht darum, euch gute Musik zu präsentieren, heute geht es um Mitgefühl und das tiefe Bedürfnis nach Frieden für all die Menschen, überall, die in solcher Not sind.
