Description: What is the difference between SAY and TELL in English? In this English lesson we explain the difference between these two verbs with many example sentences. Most of our examples use SAID and TOLD as those are the forms that are used the most. We look at the conjugation of SAY and TELL in different tenses. We also explain which verb to use to give an order or instructions. We also look at which verb with these expressions: Do you SAY the truth of TELL the truth? Do you SAY a lie of TELL a lie? Do you SAY a story of TELL a story? Do you SAY a joke of TELL a joke? (Note: only ONE way is correct!!!) At the end of this lesson there is a simple "fill the blank" exercise where the viewer needs to complete six sentences with either SAID or TOLD. The answers appear after a while.
