They are also used in mobile phones, some electric vehicles, and, of course, robotics. When handled properly, LiPo batteries are a perfectly safe power source that can last for up to 500 charge and discharge cycles. But if neglected or misused, their lifetimes can be drastically reduced, and worse, they can even catch fire! Today we will learn how LiPo batteries work, and how to read their specifications. We’ll also see how to charge, discharge, and balance LiPo batteries to ensure that they live a long and happy life. We’ll see some methods of safely storing them, and disposing of them when they have finally worn out. Not only that, but we will also see how to prevent a LiPo fire, and how to extinguish one if you are unlucky enough to have one.
