Description: The RRS Sir David Attenborough has completed ice trials during its maiden voyage to Antarctica. Tested in various ice conditions around the Antarctic Peninsula and Bellingshausen Sea, ice trials help to measure its performance and calculate the energy required to break the ice. “The thing that surprised us most was how comfortable the ship was while breaking through the sea ice, " says Ralph Stevens, Captain of RRS Sir David Attenborough. The ice trials are the first in a series of tests to get the ship ready for multi-disciplinary science missions.
