Here's the inspiration behind this song, in case you haven't read it yet: I’ve tried to keep up appearances for the majority of my life. I never let my friends see me cry. I slap on a smile when I’m feeling awful. I’ve also practiced smiling in the mirror, just like the girl in that one freaky episode of Black Mirror. After my breakup, I got tired of pretending. I realized that there was no point in acting like I was okay, and that no one was expecting me to. I also realized that you build stronger bonds with others when you’re honest about how you feel. Often times I still forget, and I end up hiding my emotions again. Living in a world dominated by social media challenges you to live authentically. I’m learning to unlearn the behaviors of my past, and instead be more open about my feelings. This song is a representation of my old self. A brand new Rosendale is coming.
