Description: Records were broken at the 42nd edition of the Rolex Middle Sea Race. Organized by the Royal Malta Yacht Club (RMYC) and partnered by Rolex since 2002, the 606-nautical mile race is renowned for its beautiful racecourse and challenging conditions. Setting a time of 33 hours, 29 minutes and 28 seconds, Jason Carroll’s United States trimaran Argo set a new outright race record. Comanche, the 100-ft (30.48m) Maxi, overcame determined rivals to both claim monohull line honours and set a new monohull race record of 40 hours, 17 minutes and 50 seconds. Comanche would also be crowned overall race winner on corrected time, completing the triple crown. Following the conclusion of multihull and monohull line honours and with 23 yachts still on the course, a serious and adverse change to the weather forecast led the RMYC Race Committee to invoke the alternative finish line in the South Comino Channel, as per the sailing instructions. As well as being a record-breaking edition, the 2021 Rolex Middle Sea Race will be remembered for the determination and guile the predominantly Corinthian crews showed in the face overcoming challenging conditions.
