Description: Hey guys welcome to the new series in which we are gonna go over how various motorcycle sub-brands evolved. So let's get started! Here is the brief story.: Before the launch of the first Pulsar Twins, the Indian Two Wheeler Market was focused towards small capacity fuel efficient motorcycles. The only performance bike in India at that time was the Hero Honda CBZ. In October, 2001 The first Pulsar Twins were born: Pulsar 150 and Pulsar 180. Two years later in 2003, Second generation of Pulsar 150 and 180 was launched by Bajaj known as UG-1. By the time of 2005, Pulsars became so popular that around 20,000 bikes were selling in a month and became a class leader in their respective segments. Bajaj did also introduce another version of Pulsars named UG-II. One year later in 2006, Bajaj further improved Pulsar 150 and Pulsar 180 named UG-III by adding part digital speedometer, clear lens indicators with self-cancelling feature, backlit switches, LED taillight and a new headlamp setup which now featured separated pilot lamps. A year later in 2007, Bajaj Auto introduced two new motorcycles: Bajaj Pulsar 200 DTS-i and Bajaj Pulsar 220 DTS-Fi. The Pulsar 200 was the larger cc version of the successful Pulsar 180 with the addition of split seats, clip-on handlebars, tank fairing, pillion split grab rails, wider 120/80 rear tubeless tire and a new exhaust setup which made the motorcycle quite ahead of its time. Pulsar 220 DTS-Fi on the other hand was an all-new semi-faired sport touring offering by Bajaj that came with features that were totally new in Indian market like fuel injection itself, rear disc brake and clip-on handlebars. In 2009, Bajaj introduced first of its kind lightweight sport motorcycle, a version of Pulsar named Pulsar 135LS where LS stands for Light Sports. The Pulsar 135LS was the first motorcycle in India to feature 4-valve DTS-i Technology. Fourth generation of Pulsar 150 and 180 named UG-IV were also introduced to give a fresher and a more premium look. Sadly Bajaj discontinued Pulsar 200 DTS-i due to its poor sales figures and to make a way for new Pulsar 220F which was better value for money proposition. Later in 2010, Bajaj launched the Street Fighter version of Pulsar 220F named 220S DTS-i. Two Years later in 2012, A new member was added to the Pulsar Family: The Pulsar 200NS. A streetfighter, which was based on a completely new platform than the rest of the Pulsars and was designed by Lead Designer Edger Heinrich. Year later in 2013, Bajaj refreshed the Pulsar Family with dual tone paint job with no additional cost which included Pulsar 135LS, Pulsar 150, Pulsar 180, Pulsar 220F and newly launched Pulsar 200NS. In Year 2015, To have a competitive edge over the rivals in performance sector Bajaj Launched RS 200, a full faired track inspired bike which was based on prototype SS400 with a smaller capacity engine. Year later in 2016, Bajaj refreshes its Pulsar range with new laser edge paint scheme to their aging Pulsar 135 LS, Pulsar 150, Pulsar 180 and Pulsar 220F. In the early 2017, Bajaj re launched the Pulsar 200 NS with a BS-IV Complaint engine and upgraded with few cosmetic changes like and addition of engine cowl and center stand. Other Pulsar models were also updated with BS-IV Complaint engines and on June 2017, Bajaj launched The Pulsar 160 NS which is the younger sibling of 200NS with a smaller capacity all new 160.3cc oil-cooled engine with a power output of 15.2Bhp@8500rpm and 14.6Nm of torque at 6500rpm to compete with bikes like Suzuki Gixxer, Honda CB Hornet 160R and Yamaha FZ Version 2.0. Pulsars are arguably the best trendsetter bikes in Indian market and realized Indians the need of high performance bikes. Bajaj is the only company in India to continuously work on sport segment by providing with advanced features like 4-valve, Triple Spark and DTS-i Technology at an affordable price. The name Pulsar will always be remembered as the bike that started it all. And that’s how a brand Pulsar evolved over the course of time.
