Description: Wolbachia-Aedes mosquitoes have been released at about 1,800 HDB blocks in five estates. They are infected with a bacteria that reduces the chances of transmitting the deadly dengue virus. Dengue cases in Singapore have risen sharply since March 2022, with 6,000 cases reported by end-April. Professor Ooi Eng Eong, professor of emerging infectious diseases at Duke NUS Medical School, shared more about the Wolbachia project and dengue in Singapore.
