So when you create affirmations they have to be rooted in truth. For example, if you really aren't a fast runner then will your brain believe you if you say that you are? I don't think so. But there is also a fine line. We are constantly telling our brains negative things that we may have some evidence for but are largely untrue and yet we believe them. So if you are going to find negative things to believe about yourself why not think of positive self talk or affirmations? To be most effective, I believe that positive affirmations need to be based in truth or have some evidence but I also believe that you can most likely find that evidence. For example, if you are studying for an exam is it a lie to say that you perform well on exams if you haven't in a year or more? I don't think it is if you can think of any time in your life when you have performed well on exams and you most certainly have. So the key to positive affirmations for me is to look for things that I have evidence of being true even if it was a long time ago or the evidence is small. If any of these positive affirmations make sense for you then I hope you adopt them in to your positive affirmation ritual. If they don't, then don't. Create your own but I think positive affirmations for students or anyone really are super important.
