I actually arranged this song before, waaaay back in 2014! It was the culmination of a 5-part recording tutorial series I did (don't watch it, it's old and outdated haha, would love to update it after Year of Sinnoh though!), but I thought that the Year of Sinnoh would be the perfect time to give it a fresh coat of paint! Looking back, I'm actually not really a big fan of my old arrangement, so I axed quite a bit of what I did, and instead wrote a new arrangement that stay relatively true to the original! Hard to believe that I did a cover of this 6 years ago, wow. Since Sunyshore is such a bright and uplifting place, I decided to take inspiration from one of the most bright and uplifting bands I know, and love, T-SQUARE! I am a massive MASSIVE T-SQUARE fan, after all, they're probably the best-known band that features an EWI in the lead instrument spot! This arrangement is like 80% a T-SQUARE rip-off, 10% an ABBA tune, and 10% Wii Fit Results Music... I don't know how all those things mixed together, but I guess that's just the power of 80's pop, haha! There's no saxophone in this arrangement ANYWHERE, as I opted to use EWI for the lead instead! I had to practice guitar quite a bit for this arrangement, both acoustic and electric! Since this tune is in A major (plus 8 bars of E major at the very beginning), it was a lot of fun to write big open voicings for the acoustic guitar, and maaaaan, I love the sound of a good double tracked, hard-panned acoustic guitar. Feels so... epic but also campfire-y at the same time! I also have to acknowledge the S L A P bass that I used in this video... I got this Fender Jazz bass looking to use it for some brighter-sounding bass tones, including slap, and MAN did it deliver on this track!
