Description: In this video I show you how to make a diptych sundial Similar to the types used in the 16th century. A diptych dial is a type of sundial that gains its name from the two hinged leaves which open like a book. Diptych comes from the Ancient Greek word "Diptukhos" meaning 'folded in two'. The diptych dial uses shadows cast by the sun to tell the time. A compass set into the Dial allows the Diptych to be placed facing North. An Incline Arrow insures the Dial is level so that the correct time can be read. The String Gnomon casts the shadow and holds the compass open to the right angle.
