Description: Investors, who were cheated by the Delhi-based Pearls Agrotech Corporation Ltd (earlier Pearls), held a 'dharna' at Jantar Mantar in Delhi July 31,2017 to press their demand for speedy refund of their money. Proclaiming itself as a real estate company, the PACL has collected over Rs 46,000 crore in the past 13 years from nearly six crore people across the country. The All India PACL Investors and AISO said they fear that the process of refund may get delayed despite the Supreme Court clearing the decks for quick sale of the assets of the Pearls group companies, which owe more than Rs 46,000 crore to investors. This amount was ordered to be refunded with promised returns, which could make it to a total of more than Rs 50,000 crore. In a release AISO, said around two lakh investors held a dharna at Jantar Mantar to demand refund of investors' money. Out of the six crore investors, more than one crore are from Maharashtra and about five lakh are from Marathwada alone, The AISO tabled various suggestions for implementation of the Supreme Court order. Market watchdog Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) should create an infrastructure in all the cities and districts to receive claims or complaints with a view to refund the money, another convener of AISO Other suggestions included that the Sebi should provide claim/complaint forms in all regional languages and that the process should be time-bound. Relying only on the data provided by PACL may result in injustice to marginal and small investors in villages. They also create awareness in the society against 'ponzi' schemes, The whole process should be transparent, using an internet based web-portal , he added. Justice Lodha Commission, which has been appointed by the Supreme Court for reimbursement of the PACL investors' money, should come forward with a specific schedule for returning the money.
