These are questions I get a lot, and that’s why I put together this complete course “Creative Rhythm”. In this course I go through all thinkable aspects of rhythm guitar: starting with some basic exercises by going through all rhythmic note values and their respective triplets, then step by step going into the realm of complex rhythm: from advanced muting techniques, to using syncopation & counter rhythms. Understanding complex rhythms is something anyone can train, and I believe it is something anyone can do! With this course I focused on exercises that train your mind; once you really master the first few steps, you can continue with the next steps more easily. Learning a 5 against 4 counter rhythm is something you have to grow into, so you need some discipline, dedication and patience to make this work. Once you get it going, it’s a lot of fun, and the possibilities are endless when you’ve got it into your system! Applying rhythmic variations into your playing can really spice up your whole style: Using scales that you already master, but giving them a twist rhythmically, can be greatly refreshing! You can apply this in leads and solos, but also in a groove of a song, chord progressions, etc. I also go through some iconic riffs from known bands that use syncopation, so you hear how you can apply it in different musical styles. And of course, some of Textures’ craziest riffs & rhythms explained step by step. The Matrix exercise is an all-round exercise for left-right hand synchronisation & stamina, and simultaneously creating a rhythmic overview on ALL possible binary permutations of groups of 3 & 4 notes. By the end of the course we go through this system, adding polyrhythmic drums, to train your ear even more. All exercises come with tabs: PDF’s & Guitar Pro files, and backing tracks.
