Description: The Amazon Rainforest goes on for 2.124 million square miles or 5.5 million square kilometers. In all of that land live over 40,000 plant species and millions of animal species. What are some of the most interesting creatures you’ll find in this jungle? Keep watching to find out! Subscribe for weekly wacky videos and learn interesting facts about the world with awesome top 10 lists and other amazing videos. 5. Lancehead Pit Viper This snake is endemic to Ilha da Queimada Grande, near the coast of Sao Paulo. The lancehead pit viper, also known as the golden lancehead, is to be avoided at all costs. They are highly venomous snakes that are so dangerous that the Brazilian navy forbids anyone to visit the island the yare primarily found on (which includes many other species of snakes). These creatures measure as long as 48 inches or 118 centimeters. If you see a slithery reptile with triangular blotches all over its body, make sure you hightail it out of there. 4. Giant Otter Regular-sized otters are between 1.9 to 3.1 feet or 57.9 to 94.4 centimeters long. Giant otters, on the other hand, grow as long as 5.6 feet or 1.7 meters long. If they were to stand upright, they’d be as tall as the average female human! They inhabit areas all along the Amazon River and are rather peaceful creatures. The only time they get a little mean is if they feel you’re invading their space since giant otters are extremely territorial. At the tips of their floppy webbed feet are sharp claws, so remember to stay in your own space. 3. Red-Bellied Piranha From above, it’s difficult to tell if a fish has a red-colored stomach. If you’re not sure, it’s best to just jump out of that water. You don’t want to accidentally swim around a red-bellied piranha. As you probably could have guessed, piranhas have powerful jaws. Even though they look small, some can grow over 1 foot or 30.5 centimeters long. They commonly reside in the low elevation regions of the Amazon River basin, in both still and moving waters. You might imagine them eating whole cows or other large beasts that unfortunately fell in the water, but their diets consist mostly of fish fins they snipped off from bigger fish that swam by. 2. Bull Shark The bull shark likes to roam through the murky waters of the Amazon River, so they might not always be so apparent. Are bull sharks dangerous to humans? Because they prefer shallow waters, contact with humans is quite common. You should also know they’re not friendly fish. Bull sharks behave aggressively and have been known to get so violent that they even resort to eating each other! 1...
