Description: Hi, Sea Fans! Thanks for watching Mermaid Minute Episode #14: EELS! :) Please SUBSCRIBE so you always know about my WEEKLY VIDEOS! This is Mermaid Linden's Mermaid Minute Season 2, Episode #14: EELS! Mermaid Minute is my ocean educational series for kids of all ages. My wish is to provide free ocean "edutainment" for anyone with access to a computer :) Let's learn about EELS! - Eels look a lot like snakes, but they're actually fish! - There are about 200 species of moray eels and they can live to be around 30 years old - Eels can survive in fresh water and salt water, but are usually found in shallow tropical and cool waters near coral reefs and rocks - They range fro 4 inches to 15 feet in length and average about 30 pounds - They have a long dorsal fin which runs from head to tail and are one of the only fish that can swim BACKWARD! - Moray eels are carnivores and they have two sets of sharp teeth: one in the jaw, and the other in their throat - Their teeth slant inward toward their stomachs making it harder for their prey to escape - These eels have poor eyesight, but their amazing sense of smell helps them hunt! Look at those nostrils :) - Morays constantly open and close their mouths to force water part their gills, which are 2 holes behind their head. This makes them look pretty dangerous and creepy, but they're actually really shy! And that's an EEL in a MERMAID MINUTE! This web series was made possible thanks to KICKSTARTER.com and all of my amazing friends, family and sea fans who put their sand dollars toward making ocean education FREE online for kids and adults everywhere :) Body Glove is our main sponsor. bodyglove.com/mermaidlinden FOLLOW MERMAID LINDEN ONLINE!
