All of us have gone too far and said too much. All of us have done things that we wish we had never done. But—“OH, THE MERCY OF JESUS, it covers us worst ones.” Our failures and misdeeds do not have to define us. Jesus did something much greater than our sin: He died for us, as us, in the midst of our sin. “But God showed his great love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8) He doesn’t ask us to get cleaned up before we come to Him. Jesus takes us just as we are, right where we are, in the middle of our mess and brokenness, and “covers us worst ones.” And that’s enough. He washes us clean. It’s His good work, not our good works that save us. It’s not about our perfect performance or about having a perfect scorecard. Jesus is the only perfect one who can perfectly love us at all times. The mercy of Jesus is for each us of daily. No one is left out from the invitation to receive. Just speak His name. He is as close as your next breath.
