Description: This is Part 2 of the coffee table build video. I completed the underside of the top made from the piece of fir in Part 1. I am making the three legs in this video. As this was a prototype and a little bit of an experiment, I made three different legs. I made the first leg from a piece of firewood from a pine tree we had cut down a few years ago. I turned this piece of pine into a cone shape on my lathe to use as a blank on the rotary 4th axis of the CNC machine. On the CNC, I cut the final shape of the leg. I made the second leg by first gluing four pieces of 4x4 post together to make a big enough chunk of wood to create the leg. Again, I trimmed this piece down on the band saw before turning it into a cone shape, and then cut the final form of the leg on the rotary 4th access of the CNC. For the third leg, I used some maple I had cut down at my father-in-law's house about 3 years ago. I made segmented rings for the top of the leg and a straight segment for the lower section of the leg. I glued all of this together and made the form to put on to the rotary 4th axis of the CNC machine where I cut a final form of the leg. I really like the idea of doing segmented turning on the rotary 4th axis of the CNC. It turned out really well. I attached the three legs to the underside of the table with a single double ended wood screw. It was my mom's birthday and this made a nice present for her so it now lives in my parent’s living room.
