These Kami are associated with forests, trees, and mountains. The name Kodama existed in Japanese folklore, even before the creation of formal Japanese writing, “Kanji”. According to ancient beliefs, these small humanoid cuties are linked to either an enormous or a very old and special tree. However, they are not stuck with that tree as they can move from one tree to another, or even from one mountain forest to another mountain forest.
