Description: Kathleen uses the word ritual to describe the process of creating art. Collecting forest debris, dancing, smelling flowers & forest bathing is all a part of the ceremony. The goal: to celebrate the interconnectedness of nature, spirit and the human experience. Items gathered during these activities end up being used in her shadow-boxes, animations and mixed media pieces. The variety of methods help her extract the essential meaning of a piece, to find its true form and expression, transforming old rituals into new ones. Inspired by ancient folk traditions, as well as her environment, Kathleen creates her own visual folk tales for modern times. “I am very interested in exploring the unconscious influence of childhood in our adult lives. When I paint, I use innocence and playfulness to explore my complex themes. My work is not about humans having a spiritual experience, but spirits having a human experience.” [from: kathleenlolley.com/contact] Music: Robert Rich "Refuge in Breathing"
