Description: Kaka in the fog. These parrots are known for their distinctive call. New Zealand Kakas are closely related to kea. Along with the flightless kakapo and the two recently-extinct kaka species they form the parrot superfamily Strigopoidea. In Wellington, as a result of people feeding adult birds nuts, grains, seeds, crackers and bread, and other inappropriate food, over 80% of chicks being monitored died from metabolic bone disease in 2016.
